The United States Department of the Army is one of the three military departments within the Department of Defense of the United States of America. The United States Department of the Army is the Federal government agency under which the army is organized and is led by the Secretary of the Army. The Secretary of the Army is a civilian official appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The highest ranking military officer in the department is the Chief of Staff of the Army.
In 2020, the Secretary of the Army position is held by Ryan D. McCarthy. And the Chief of Staff of the Army position is held by General James C. McConville.
The United States Department of the Army states their purpose is to deploy, fight, and win the United States war through ready, prompt and sustained land dominance. Their future vision is to employ manned and unmanned ground combat vehicles, aircraft, sustainment systems, and weapons in order to deter and maintain their ability to conduct irregular warfare.
