The University of Colombo is a public educational institute in Sri Lanka, founded on January 1, 1921. It is located in College House, 94 Kumaratunga Munidasa Mawatha, Colombo 00700, in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. The university operates in the higher education and university industries and is accredited by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. It is also affiliated with the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
The University of Colombo is an active organization with an estimated number of employees between 10,000 and 49,999. Known in Sinhala as කොළඹ විශ්ව විද්යාලය, it carries the motto "Wisdom Enlightens".
This educational institute has several subsidiaries, which include the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo library, University of Colombo School of Computing, and the University of Colombo, Centre for Instrument Development. The University of Colombo owns and operates College House, Colombo.
