The University of Gothenburg (Göteborgs universitet) is a public educational institute located in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was founded on July 1, 1954 and operates as an organization in the education industry, specifically within higher education. The university is situated in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. Its motto is "Tradita innovare innovata tradere".
The University of Gothenburg has two subsidiaries, Högskolan för scen och musik and the School of Design and Crafts. It is also affiliated with the European University Association and has spun off the Swedish Algae Factory as a separate entity.
