Started play in football at 8 years in Narva`s football school. In 17 years go to his first professional football club "Sport" and played at second league of USSR. At 18 y.o leave "Sport" and goes to "CSKA"Moscow where is the same played one year instead of military service. After that Karpin came to "Fakel" Voronezh. In 1990 he was sold in "Spartak"Moscow,where spend 4 years. At this period he played 117 times and scored 28 goals. After a career, he worked in the construction business in Vigo for several years.
