Valery Gergiev (born 2 May 1953) is a music director with an education from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. Born in Moscow, Gergiev holds citizenship in both the Soviet Union and Russia. His primary occupation is a music director and conductor, and he specializes in opera and classical music. Gergiev is located in Russia.
Throughout his career, Gergiev has received numerous awards and honors. Some of these include the Hero of Labour of the Russian Federation, Order of Merit for the Fatherland (3rd and 4th class), Order of Friendship, and the Order of Alexander Nevsky. Other recognitions include the Gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation, State Prize of the Russian Federation, and Honorary Citizen of St. Petersburg.
In addition, Gergiev has been awarded various ecclesiastical honors such as the Order of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir III degree, Order of the Holy Blessed Prince Daniel of Moscow (2nd class), and the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh. He has also been recognized as an Honored Artist of the RSFSR, a People's Artist of Ukraine, and has been granted the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise.
