Victorinox is a Swiss company, manufacturer of Swiss army and other knives, watches and cutlery. The headquarters is located in the settlement of Ibach, canton of Schwyz.
Swiss Army Knife (Swiss Army Knife — SAK) is a key product of Victorinox. Initially, the company was practically the only supplier to the Swiss army, but from 1908 to 2009 it had to split the order in half with Wenger. These knives are also used outside the army, being a high-quality multifunctional tool (from 8 to over 30 functions in one knife), they have proven themselves as an excellent gift.
These knives are included in the list of standard equipment for NASA astronauts.
It is worth noting that the name "Swiss army knife" applies to at least 4 large groups of products from Victorinox.Actually, soldiers' (or rather, army) knives have been produced for a very long time and have gradually evolved. These are simple folding multi-subject knives with a minimum of necessary tools.
In addition to knives supplied to the troops, Victorinox knives with a size of 111 millimeters are also called soldiers' knives; all such models have a blade lock that does not allow you to accidentally fold the knife on your fingers.
Officer models initially differed from soldiers by the presence of a corkscrew. Now Victorinox officer knives have an overall length of 91 and 84 millimeters in the closed state and can contain from 1 to 8 rows of tools: a blade, a can opener and a cork opener are present almost everywhere, but there are also knives (small and large) with a metal saw, a wood saw, pliers, phillips screwdrivers, scissors, sereitor, piles (Victorinox Helmsman, Skipper soldier knives) and even with an Equestrian hoof cleaning hook.
The most popular Victorinox models are various versions of the Victorinox Classic miniature knife [source not specified 4409 days]. Most often it has a small blade, nail scissors and a nail file. The length of the manicure knives-key chains is 58 millimeters, but business accessories of a slightly larger size are also available, including, for example, a cigar knife or truly "penknives", in which there is nothing but 1-2 thin narrow blades.
Victorinox supplies knives for the armies of other countries, in particular, Germany (German Army Knife — GAK — "German army knife"). Their design differs from the classic Swiss army knife, and these models are not always available for free sale, but, for example, the German Army Knife model (a simplified version of the popular Victorinox Trailmaster model) is easy to buy in retail stores, and in an updated form this knife has become not only the new official Swiss Army Knife, but also contributed a lot promotion of Victorinox knives on the world market, due to the attractive design of the handle.
A knife for rescue services (Victorinox Rescue Tool) is a special kind of folding knife. In addition to the usual blades and screwdrivers, his set of tools includes a device for breaking car glass, a saw for cutting a cracked triplex, a sling cutter. The sides of the handle are made of bright yellow fluorescent plastic that glows in the dark.
SwissCard (literally — "Swiss card") is a compact set of tools in a flat case, close in size to a credit card, but somewhat larger in thickness.
It consists of:
Small knife
Nail Scissors
Tweezers and other items
They are available in modifications: SwissCard Classic and SwissCard Lite, which differ in a set of tools.
SwissCard can be carried in a wallet or wallet.
The company also produces multitools: SwissTool and SwissTool Spirit.
A wide range. Starting from knives made of rolled steel, ending with professional knives with a forged blade.
Most of them have a distinctive emblem — an image of an eagle with wings spread and a branch in its beak, as well as a number indicating that the knife belongs to a certain model range.
Initially, all forged knives were made in Switzerland, but recently the production, apparently completely, was transferred to Germany. This is evidenced by the changes in the inscriptions in the emblem itself (Extra Quality replaced with Best Quality, Made in Switzerland replaced with Quality Controlled), as well as the addition of the corresponding inscription next to the emblem in the new model range "Grand Maitre" (although it is worth noting that the EAN code indicated on the package corresponds to Switzerland). In the previous model ranges of forged knives, the changes affected only the emblem, and knives made of rolled steel continue to be manufactured in Switzerland with the corresponding emblem.
In addition to stainless steel knives, Victorinox produces kitchen knives with a ceramic blade (CeramicLine). The blades of these knives are made of high-purity zirconium oxide powder, sintered at high temperature and pressure, in Japan, and the manufacture of handles and the assembly itself is carried out in Switzerland
