Weekend Fund is a venture capital and angel investing firm focused on making early stage investments that is headquartered in San Francisco, California and was founded in 2017 by Ryan Hoover. Notable investments made by Weekend Fund include: TTYL, YOLO, Carenote, Secfi, Northstar, FaZe Clan, Codeverse, and Spectrum.
Ryan Hoover started Weekend Fund after a company he previously founded called Product Hunt was acquired by AngelList. The company make early stage investments in startups ranging from $75,000 to $200,000 with a focus on investing in companies operating in the following industries: distributed/remote working, audio/voice technology, digital celebrities, and tools for creators/makers.
Weekend Build is a project ran by Weekend Fund to help entrepreneurs turn their side projects into a functioning company. Weekend Fund took a survey of over 300 people working on side projects which resulted in the company gaining close to 9000 data points on people working part time on their side projects. They found that 56% of people working on side projects either wanted to, or planned on, quit their job to work on their side project full time, and that 29% of people working on side projects would consider quitting their job to work on their side project full time.
They also found that 50% of side projects people were working on were making money (95% were making less than 5K/month), 81% of people never applied to a business accelerator, 865 of people never tried raising money for their project, and 52% of people thought their projects could grow in $100 million plus companies.
On August 17, 2017 Weekend Fund completed raising money for their Fund I investment fund with $3.1 million in funding.
On September 6, 2019 Weekend Fund completed raising money for their Fund II investment fund with $8.7 million in funding from 98 investors.
