WikiLeaks is a not-for-profit media organization and associated library founded by Julian Assange in 2006. First launched in 2007, WikiLeaks has published over ten million documents and associated analyses since its founding. The organization focuses on censored and restricted materials and holds contractual relationships with many other media organizations worldwide.
Publications by WikiLeaks often contain official materials that involve war, human rights violations, espionage, or corruption of some nature. In light of this, Wikileaks provides an anonymous electronic dropbox utilizing cryptographic information technologies for sources to submit information and documents securely to the WikiLeaks team for analysis and verification.
The organization receives funding from its publishers, partners, and donations from the public, with over one hundred employees in offices across the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Asia. The legal team in Europe is led by Baltasar Garzon and is led by Michael Ratner in the United States.
