Willem Einthoven was born on May 21, 1860, in Semarang, Indonesia. He held Dutch nationality and was educated at Utrecht University. Einthoven worked as a doctor, professor, physician, and physiologist . His academic discipline was in Physiology & Behavior, and he was advised by Franciscus Donders during his doctoral studies.
Einthoven is best known for his contributions to the development of the first practical electrocardiogram machine and clinical electrocardiography. Additionally, he established Einthoven's triangle, a concept used to analyze the electrical activity of the heart.
Einthoven's accomplishments earned him several awards, including the 1924 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and the 2008 induction to the National Inventors Hall of Fame. He passed away in Leiden, Netherlands on September 29, 1927.
