William Alfred Fowler (1911-1995) was an astronomer and physicist who was educated at the California Institute of Technology and Ohio State University. Fowler was a citizen of the United States and was born in Pittsburgh. He passed away in Pasadena, California.
Fowler was a notable contributor to the B2FH paper, which was a seminal work in the field of astrophysics. He was advised by Charles Christian Lauritsen during his doctoral studies and later mentored several doctoral students, including Arthur B. McDonald, Donald D. Clayton, J. Richard Bond, and Alvin V. Tollestrup.
In recognition of his contributions to the field, Fowler received the 1983 Nobel Prize in Physics.
