Irish surgeon and writer
William Wilde (1815-1876) was an Irish surgeon, writer, anthropologist, and historian born in County Roscommon. He completed his education at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Throughout his career, Wilde held various occupations and affiliations, gaining recognition in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. However, his most well-known accomplishment is perhaps the fatherhood of the famous Irish playwright Oscar Wilde.
During his lifetime, William Wilde worked as a surgeon, writer, anthropologist, and historian. He was a prominent figure in his time and contributed to various aspects of Irish society.
William Wilde passed away on April 19, 1876, in the Republic of Ireland.
