Wind River Systems

Wind River is a California-based technology company developing, operating, and managing device software. The company specializes in providing device software optimization (DSO). Wind River's software offers a portfolio of services targeted at the needs of the internet of things (IoT) segment in the automotive, aerospace, defense, industrial, medical, and telecommunications markets. The company also provides a variety of educational materials and resources. Wind River is headquartered in Alameda, CA.

Wind River Systems aims to enable the digital facilitation of critical infrastructure systems through its cloud-native platform, Wind River Studio. The platform provides a set of tools to develop and deploy mission-critical intelligent systems and is designed to enable product lifecycle management for edge-to-cloud use cases. This includes process automation, in-cloud development, application integration, security, and more.

Wind River Systems was founded by Jerry Fiddler in 1981 and became a publicly traded company in 1993. The company was acquired by Intel and fully integrated into its Software and Services Group in 2009. Wind River returned to operating independently following its acquisition by asset management firm TPG in 2018.

In January 2022, Wind River Systems announced it would be acquired from TPG by the Dublin-based tech company Aptiv.
