Wolfgang Paul (born August 10, 1913, in Saxony, Germany, and died December 7, 1993, in Bonn, Germany) was a physicist who is known for his notable work on the quadrupole ion trap. He was a citizen of Germany and was educated at the Technical University of Berlin and the Technical University of Munich.
Paul was awarded the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to the field. His doctoral advisor was Hans Kopfermann, and one of his doctoral students was Peter E. Toschek.
