Wynton Marsalis is an American composer, bandleader, and musician known for his work in jazz, classical music, and Dixieland. He was born Wynton Learson Marsalis on October 18, 1961, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Marsalis holds United States citizenship and is the son of Ellis Marsalis Jr., a prominent jazz pianist and educator.
