Yaroslav the Wise (978-1054) was a prominent politician and a prolific historical figure. He is known for being the author of Russkaya Pravda, an early legal code for the Kievan Rus. Yaroslav was born in 978 and died on February 28, 1054, in Vyshhorod.
He was a child of Vladimir the Great and Rogneda of Polotsk. Yaroslav the Wise was married to Anna Porphyrogenita, and together they had several children, including Vsevolod I of Kiev, Vladimir of Novgorod, Anne of Kiev, Iziaslav I of Kiev, and Sviatoslav II of Kiev. Yaroslav also had other children such as Agatha, wife of Edward the Exile; Anastasia of Kiev; Elisiv of Kiev; Igor Yaroslavich; and Vyacheslav Yaroslavich.
In addition to his political role and authoring Russkaya Pravda, Yaroslav the Wise is also credited as the founder of the city of Yaroslavl.
