Zubin Mehta (born April 29, 1936, in Mumbai) is an Indian music director known for his work in the field of classical music. He holds citizenship in both India and the British Raj. Mehta studied at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and Accademia Musicale Chigiana. He is the son of Mehli Mehta. Zubin Mehta married Nancy Kovack.
Mehta is known for his work with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Over his career, he has received multiple awards, including Grammy Awards, lifetime achievement awards like the Lifetime Achievement Peace and Tolerance Award, and honorary recognitions such as Honorary doctorate and Honorary Conductor. He has also been awarded prestigious Indian honors like the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. Mehta has received international accolades, including Kennedy Center Honors, Dan David Prize, and Golden Order of Merit.
