deBridge is a Web3 protocol that has been designed and developed for cross-chain interoperability. It is also the name of the team and organization behind the development of the protocol. deBridge officially commenced during the Chainlink Global Hackathon, a competition in which teams can submit their Web3-related projects to gain funding and mentorship so the project can be developed. The team behind deBridge took first prize out of 140 teams at the hackathon in 2021, which allowed the project to scale and grow. The stated goal of the team building the protocol is to securely unite all blockchains and bring composability to the blockchain ecosystem.
The deBridge protocol had two testnet phases and launched its public mainnet beta in February 2022. This iteration of deBridge supports Binance Smart Chain, Ethereum, Polygon, HECO, and Arbitrum for cross-chain swaps and interoperability. With deBridge, messages and values can be sent across the aforementioned chains due to a network of independent validators that run a deBridge node to maintain the infrastructure of the protocol. It allows users to partake in actions such as cross-chain swaps and bridging NFTs.
Developers can utilize deBridge to scale their own protocol and launch decentralized applications (dApps). It can be integrated into existing applications, such as Rubric, Frontier, and Curve.
deBridge can be used in a variety of contexts:
- algorithmic stablecoins
- synthetic assets
- wallets
- decentralized exchanges (DEXs)
- decentralized lending
- governance
- NFTs
- launchpads
- indexes
- payments
- staking
- identity
