Aaref was born in Pakistan, but grew up in the United Kingdom, where he went on to go study at Cambridge University.
As an entrepreneur, Aaref was CEO of two companies which were both backed by Sequoia: CenterRun (sold to Sun Microsystems in 2003 for $66M) and Clearwell Systems (sold to Symantec for $410 million in 2011).
Aaref became a Partner at Sequoia in 2012, having spent a year at Symantec after the acquisition of Clearwell Systems.
