Afineur is a cellular agriculture company making cultured protein products, and enhancing flavour and nutritional profiles of food products using their own cellular agriculture fermentation platform. Afineur is headquartered in Brooklyn, New York City, New York and was founded in 2014 by Camille Delebecque and Sophie Deterre.
The companies first cellular agricultural product was gourmet coffee without bitterness. The gourmet coffee was created by putting green arabica coffee beans in a cellular agricultural bioreactor with microorganisms that metabolized bitter tasting molecules out of the coffee beans.
On July 1, 2014 Afineur secured their first round of seed funding from SOSV and IndieBio. The amount of seed funding remains undisclosed.
On October 2, 2016 Afineur closed their second seed funding round with an undisclosed amount of funding from Techstars.
