Akash Systems is a company designing and manufacturing satellites, satellite parts, and materials for satellites that is headquartered in San Francisco, California and was founded in 2016 by Felix Ejeckam and Ty Mitchell. The company's co-founder, Felix Ekeckam, invented a new material called gallium nitride (GaN)-on-Diamond which is used to make Akash Systems products. The company uses gallium nitride (GaN)-on-Diamond to manufacture power amplifiers and radio modules for satellites requiring high power efficiencies and high frequencies.
On January 30, 2018 Akash Systems announced raising $3.1 million in seed funding from Khosla Ventures (lead investor), Social Capital, Ruvento, Data Collective DCVC, Backstage Capital, and Sriram Krishnan. Akash Systems planned on using their seed funding to move onto the second phase of designing and manufacturing their small satellite systems and transmitters.
On July 10, 2019 Akash Systems announced raising $14.5 million in series A funding from Khosla Ventures, Founders Fund, Correlation Ventures, ACME Capital, and Sriram Krishnan. The funding was split between $10 million in new equity funding and $4.5 million in previously acquired convertible notes. Felix Ejeckam, the CEO and cofounder of Akash Systems, made the following public statement regarding the company's series A funding round:
