Alan Shepard was born on November 18, 1923, in Derry, New Hampshire. He was an American astronaut, aircraft pilot, officer in the armed forces, entrepreneur, and test pilot. Shepard was educated at several institutions, including the Naval War College, United States Naval Academy, Pinkerton Academy, United States Naval Test Pilot School, and Admiral Farragut Academy. He was a citizen of the United States.
Alan Shepard was the child of Alan Bartlett Shepard Sr. and Pauline Renza Shepard. He passed away on July 21, 1998, in Pebble Beach, California.
Throughout his career, Shepard received various awards, including the Congressional Space Medal of Honor, Langley Gold Medal, John J. Montgomery Award, Iven C. Kincheloe Award, Navy Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross (United States), NASA Distinguished Service Medal, and the NASA Exceptional Service Medal.
