Amazon Q is a generative AI-powered assistant from Amazon tailored for businesses. Offering a chatbot experience, Amazon Q can have conversations, solve problems, generate content, and complete tasks using a company's data. Users can connect Amazon Q to their company's information repositories, code bases, and enterprise systems, for information retrieval at work.
Amazon Q works with any model found on Amazon Bedrock (AWS's story of AI models), including Meta’s Llama 2 and Anthropic’s Claude 2. Customers can choose the model that works best for them, connecting to it through the Bedrock API, allowing the model to their business's specific data, policies, and workflows before deploying Amazon Q.
Amazon Q's areas of expertise include the following:
- Business expert—with over forty built-in connectors, Amazon Q can connect to a company's data and systems for a range of applications, including tailored conversations, content generation, and more.
- AWS—trained on patterns in the AWS well-architected framework, Amazon Q is knowledgeable on AWS best practices, documentation, and solutions. Amazon Q is available through the AWS management console, popular IDEs, and more.
- Amazon QuickSight—this is a unified business intelligence service built for the cloud, offering interactive dashboards, analytics, and more.
- Amazon Connect—Amazon Q Connect (Amazon's contact center service) helps customer service agents improve their performance by providing relevant company information in real time.
Amazon Q was announced on November 28, 2023, during a keynote speech at AWS re:Invent by AWS CEO Adam Selipsky. After the announcement, Amazon Q became initially available in preview in AWS regions US East (N. Virginia) and US West (Oregon). Amazon offers Amazon Q via two pricing plans:
- Amazon Q Business $20/month per user—business expert
- Amazon Q Builder $20/month per user—business and AWS expert
