Arna Bontemps was an American poet, writer, novelist, playwright, and librarian. He was born on October 13, 1902, in Alexandria, Louisiana, and held citizenship in the United States. Bontemps was educated at the University of Chicago and Pacific Union College. He passed away on June 4, 1973, in Nashville, Tennessee.
During his career, Bontemps authored several works including "Story of the Negro", "Popo and Fifina", "Boy of the Border", "Arna Bontemps-Langston Hughes Letters, 1925-1967", and "Chariot in the Sky: A Story of the Jubilee Singers". Among his works, "Story of the Negro" is considered as one of his notable contributions. Throughout his life, Bontemps used his literary talents to highlight the importance of African-American history and culture.
