Arthur Kornberg was an American physician, biochemist, and chemist born on March 3, 1918, in Brooklyn. He held citizenship in the United States and spent his career in the country. Kornberg received education from a variety of institutions, including the City College of New York, University of Rochester, New York University School of Medicine, and Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn.
His doctoral advisor was Carl Ferdinand Cori, and he supervised several doctoral students, including Randy Schekman, Tania A. Baker, and James Spudich. Arthur Kornberg was awarded the 1959 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and was the father of Roger D. Kornberg. He passed away on October 26, 2007, in Stanford, California.
