BetterHelp offers therapy, counseling, and mental health services through the BetterHelp website and mobile app. The company was founded by Alon Matas and Danny Bragonier in 2013. Matas also serves as company president. The BetterHelp team consists of licensed and accredited psychologists (PhD / PsyD), marriage and family therapists (LMFT), clinical social workers (LCSW / LMSW), and board licensed professional counselors (LPC). Therapy services are available for individuals, couples, and teens. They offer service packages to businesses, non-profits, universities, and more. They also offer group therapy and meditation.
BetterHelp's network of providers includes upwards of 16,000 therapists, and the platform functions as a matchmaking tool to pair clients with a therapist that meets their particular needs. Most Betterhelp services are not covered by health insurance.
BetterHelp was originally known as Compile, Inc. and was first incorporated on October 24, 2012. The company was officially launched in 2013. BetterHelp was incorporated again in California on December 16, 2014, and was then renamed, relaunched as BetterHelp. The telehealth service, Teladoc, acquired BetterHelp in January of 2015. BetterHelp partnered with the mental health media platform, Mindcology in 2017. Becoming Us, a series of virtual therapy sessions, was launched in 2020 by BetterHelp and Vator.
