Bitstamp is a cryptocurrency exchange that was founded in 2011, they provide a trading venue to over four million individuals and enable a range of institutional partners to enter crypto markets through the Bitstamp platform.
The Bitstamp exchange supports the conversion of multiple currencies (both fiat and cryptocurrencies), including USD, EUR, GBP, Ripple, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and 20+ others.
The platform allows users to deposit funds through SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) transfers, which are available in thirty-six countries, as well Instant SEPA; International Wire Transfers; ACH (Automated Clearing House) payments, which are available to US residents; and credit/debit card.
Card purchases are available for all EU member states, as well for most US states; a variety of other countries are supported. Bank deposit and withdrawals are available only for personal bank accounts.
Bitstamp offers Ethereum (ETH) staking since April 2021. Staking allows users to use ETH to earn crypto by locking assets on the Ethereum blockchain for a period of time.

Fee tiers are based on a client's total trading volume over the past thirty days. Trading volume is calculated across all trading pairs and is expressed in USD, based on the exchange rate at the time of the trade. A trader will be moved into a new fee tier up to a few minutes after reaching the requirement for that tier.
The Bitstamp referral program allows users to invite new people to join Bitstamp, using referral link available on their accounts. Both the current user and referral receive a $20 reward.
The Lightning Network is a second layer of technology built over the blockchain, which dramatically improves its performance. It allows Bitcoin to handle millions of transactions per second with almost no fees.
On October 29, 2018 Bitstamp was acquired by NXMH. NXMH obtained an 80% majority stake in Bitstamp for an undisclosed fee.
On March 17, 2014 Bitstamp completed a venture funding round with $10 million in funding from Pantera Capital.
On January 5, 2017 Bitstamp completed their equity crowd funding round with $1.3 million.
Bitstamp was rated as one of the leading exchanges according to CryptoCompare Exchange Benchmark Report February 2021, as the AA graded exchange.
