CVC Capital Partners was established in 1981 as an international private equity company with twenty-five offices in Europe, Middle East, Africa, and the Americas. The company has over €123 billion of assets under management and €157 billion of funds committed by December 2021. The company is geographically diverse, with 670 employees comprising forty-three nationalities in twenty-five different countries. CVC Capital Partners invests in businesses across the world and manages over 300 funds. CVC is majority-owned by its employees and led by its thirty-seven managing partners, all with an average tenure of fifteen years with the company.

In January 2022, CVC announced that cofounder and co-chair Steve Koltes would be stepping down, effective October 1, 2022, but would remain on the board of directors.
