Califia Farms makes plant-based dairy products (primarily almond based) such as plant-based milks, plant-based creamers, juices, and dairy-free probiotic yoghurts. The company was founded in 2010 by Greg Steltenpohl and is headquartered in Los Angles, California. Califia Farms is named after the Spanish legend of Califia, a warrior queen that ruled over a bountiful and mythical island called California. Califia is pronounced like California but without the "orn".
The CEO of Califia Farms, Greg Steltenpohl, has a vision for Califia Farms to "make it easy for people to go plant-based and dairy-free with better packaging and more enticing flavors". Califia Farms is in line with CEO Steltenpohl's vision for the company, offering 60+ plant-based and dairy-free products. Between 2015 and 2017 Califia Farms lowered the total sugar used to make their products by 40% in an effort to offer their customers products that will help them live healthier lives by consuming less sugar.
In 2015 BevNet, a media company that covers the beverage industry, named Califia Farms "brand of the year" for "bridging the gap between social mission, flavor, function, and agriculture". Califia Farms was named one of the top 25 most innovative consumer brands of 2016 by Forbes magazine. On April 26, 2017 Whole Foods named Califia Farms their supplier of the year for "positioning their brand at the forefront of innovation within plant based, dairy alternatives, as well as their passion for quality ingredients and environmental stewardship".
On August 28, 2017 Califia Farms and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf announced an on-premise partnership agreement that brings Califia Farms Barista Blend Almond milk into The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf locations across the United States.
Califia Farms partnered up with Raised Real, a popular nation wide baby food delivery service company, on March 20, 2018. The partnership focuses on Califia Farm's parental leave policy. During the first two months of post-parental leave, employees at Califia Farmswill have Raised Real Baby Food delivered to their doorstep every 2 weeks.
On September 16, 2015 Califia Farms received a $50 million dollar minority growth investment from Stripes Group.
In August, 2017 Califia Farms closed a $15 million dollar investment deal with CapX for the construction of a new bottling facility in Bakersfield, California.
