Capvis AG is a Swiss private equity firm, entrepreneurial mid-market investor, and private equity advisor specializing in German-speaking Europe. The firm focuses on technology-driven companies in the Industrial Corridor of Europe, including Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Capvis is headquartered in Baar, Switzerland, with offices in Frankfurt and Shanghai.
Capvis was founded in 1990 as SBC Equity Partners, a part of the Equity Banking Division of the Swiss Bank Corporation. In 1998, Capvis Equity Partners AG emerged as part of the UBS private equity organisation, UBS Capital, as a result of the UBS and SBC merger. Capvis Equity Partners AG changed its name to Capvis AG in 2019. In 2013, Private Equity International (PEI) named Capvis Equity Partners AG as the “Best Private Equity Firm” in Germany. In 2017, PEI named Capvis Equity Partners AG as the “Best Private Equity Firm” in Switzerland for the twelfth time.
The firm prefers to invest in B2B, commercial products, services, healthcare, manufacturing, and technology sectors through means of add-ons, buyouts, management buyouts, and spin-offs. Capvis has invested in Xovis AG, VAT Group AG, Kaffee Partner, SFC Koenig, Stadler Rail, Amann Girrbach, Ammega, ARAG, arena, BSI Software, The Felss Group, Gotha Cosmetics, Hennecke, hessnatur, ProXES, Tertianum, Tmax, Variosystems, and Visable. Its notable exits include Xovis AG, SFC Koenig, and Kaffee Partner. In 2021, Capvis funds totaled EUR 900 million and the Capvis team had completed sixty-one transactions with a volume of over EUR 3.5 billion since its founding in 1990.
