O.C.O Technology Ltd. specializes in carbon capture, sustainable construction products, and waste treatment. The company operates three factories in the U.K. and has operations around the globe. Built on more than 20 years of award-winning research, Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT) helps make O.C.O. a world leader in the permanent capture of carbon dioxide.

Carbon capture and ACT

O.C.O. Technology Ltd. is an expert in the application of Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT) for carbon capture.

ACT is a genuine Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) process. The company permanently captures carbon dioxide as stable carbonate minerals. The process requires very little energy, which relies upon the reactivity of the waste material. Many wastes are naturally reactive with carbon dioxide in the presence of water. If the conditions are carefully controlled, this natural reaction can be accelerated, taking place in minutes rather than years and resulting in the formation of calcium carbonate (manufactured limestone). Water acts as a solvent, allowing CO₂ and calcium ions to readily react. The reaction forms a solid carbonate precipitate.

ACT demonstrates utilizing a variety of gas sources. The company actively develops direct-from-flue-gas capture.

ACT is an effective waste treatment process that stabilizes contaminants, enhances the handling of the wastes, and reduces disposal costs. A multitude of wastes can be readily treated and rendered less hazardous using ACT.

Sustainable construction projects

O.C.O Technology valorizes thermal residues as construction products. In the UK, O.C.O Technology has three commercially operating plants producing carbon-negative aggregate, supplying to the construction industry as a sustainable construction material. The company's aggregate is known as M-LS. M for Manufactured, LS for LimeStone. M-LS is Carbon Negative. More CO₂ is permanently captured during the process than used in its manufacture.

M-LS tailors to the application being required. Strength, density, and grading can be adjusted to the requirement. O.C.O Technology continues to develop new sustainable products. The technology applies to a multitude of applications, including the production of bricks, blocks, tiles and slabs, made from waste materials, and conventional cementitious materials.
