Catherine the Great was born on April 21, 1729 at the Ducal Castle in Szczecin. She held citizenship in the Russian Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia. Her father was Christian August, Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst, and her mother was Joanna Elisabeth of Holstein-Gottorp. Catherine's occupations included politician, monarch, and aristocrat.
Catherine was the mother of Paul I of Russia and a child of Christian August, Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst. She passed away in Saint Petersburg on November 6, 1796.
During her life, Catherine the Great founded several institutions and locations including Chesme Church, the Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg Mining University, and Krasnodar. She also owned the Pavlovsk Palace and a painting called "A Wooded Marsh".
