American mathematician and information theorist
Claude Shannon, also known as Claude Elwood Shannon, was born on April 30, 1916, in Petoskey, Michigan. He was a mathematician , computer scientist, engineer, geneticist, and inventor. Shannon held citizenship in the United States and passed away on February 24, 2001, in Medford, Massachusetts.
Claude Shannon received his education at the University of Michigan, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Gaylord High School. He had the privilege of having Vannevar Bush as his doctoral advisor. Some of his notable doctoral students include Ivan Sutherland and Danny Hillis.
Shannon is best known for his notable works, such as "A Mathematical Theory of Communication" and "A Symbolic Analysis of Relay and Switching Circuits". In recognition of his contributions, he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2004.
