ClipDrop

ClipDrop is an application that turns mobile photos into professional product visuals. The ClipDrop application is available on Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, as a web application, and as an API. The company was founded in 2020 by the development team, which includes Jonathan Blanchet, Cyril Diagne, and Damien Henry. The Paris-based company is sometimes referred to as Init ML. In March 2023, ClipDrop was acquired by Stability AI.

The ClipDrop application offers users tools to clean up photos, including removing objects, texts, and defects from a picture automatically; removing backgrounds to help users extract the main subject from a picture; relighting to help users change the lighting conditions in the pictures; removing text from images; and image upscaling, where users can upscale images by two or four times and remove noise from those images. With its artificial intelligence tools, ClipDrop offers users a text-to-image feature to generate high-resolution and realistic images and replace backgrounds with anything through generative AI.

In March 2023, Stability AI announced the acquisition of Init ML, or ClipDrop. The deal saw the ClipDrop application become a part of Stability AI as a generative AI tool, and the founders of ClipDrop and Init ML shifted to working on the ClipDrop tool under Stability AI. Working with Stability AI, the ClipDrop founding team is also expected to develop new products under Stability AI.
