Cohere Technologies

Cohere Technologies is a California-based spectrum multiplier solution provider that improves 4G and 5G efficiency through its proprietary software. The company was founded in 2011 by Shlomo Rakib and Dr. Ronny Hadani; Raymond Dolan took over as CEO in October 2018.

Cohere Technologies provides wireless modulation technology named Orthogonal Time Frequency and Space (OTFS), that implements a two-dimensional representation of the wireless channel and allows all wireless transmission under any conditions resilient to channel dynamics. OTFS delivers stable and consistent wireless service linearly within the network. Cohere's technology enables network operators to deliver wireless services in a wider range of applications that include fast moving public transportation, autonomous cars, IoT devices, and smart city endpoints.

OTFS has high tolerance to Doppler shifts and has superior multipath separation and linear scaling with MIMO, allowing it to meet enhanced mobile broadband requirements for new wireless services and applications. The software platform is 3GPP standard-compliant and improves the efficiency of any generation of mobile network, offering cost-effective solutions to the rising costs of new spectrums. This increases the value of all networks and allows mobile network providers to increase capacity and efficiency without investing large sums into network development.

Cohere's spectrum multiplier approach compared to conventional approaches

Home is Cohere's distributed network service, consisting of of sensors and communications devices that connect and interact to securely improve network strength and reliability.Cohere’s Spectrum Multiplier platform for the Radio Access Network (RAN) and Telco Cloud extends mobile network’s spectral efficiency by as much as double, meaning a 5G user experience can be quickly and easily provided to end-users on all networks.

Cohere's software technology won the GSMA 2020 Global Mobile Award for Best Network Software Breakthrough. In the same year, Deutsche Telekom announced it was partnering with Cohere, Mavenir, VMware, and Intel on a cloud-based virtual RAN platform based on O-RAN standards.

The Spectrum Multiplier software, announced in February 2021, can also be integrated by network suppliers in the RAN or Telco Cloud to overcome conventional challenges such as intercell interference, channel state aging, mobility stability and complex antenna layer configurations. Trials held by Deutsche Telekom in early 2020 showed that Cohere could double spectral efficiency across O-RAN RIC channels.

OTFS has been endorsed by mobile operators and vendors as a foundation for 6G. Cohere's end-to-end wireless OTFS system has demonstrated superior cellular performance compared to 5G, with a test by Telefonica in March 2018 showing the system could provide efficient spectral service of 57 b/s/Hz across 14 layers in a 90 degree sector.

Cohere Technologies announced a $35 million Series C funding round in 2015, led by Telstra. The funding round also included existing investors New Enterprise Associates, Lightspeed Ventures and new investors Macquarie Capital and AME Cloud Ventures. Cohere stated the investment will fund scaling of the company to bring its new modulation, Orthogonal Time Frequency and Space (OTFS), to market in response for the growing demands for higher capacity and coverage in wireless networks.
