Covid Act Now published the first model of their platform on March 20, 2020, and was founded by Max Henderson, Igor Kofman, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, and Zack Rosen.
The organization is comprised of multidisciplinary team of technologists, epidemiologists, health experts, and public policy leaders that have the stated goal of providing intelligence and data towards COVID-19. The company has provided information for federal, state, and local government officials, as well as including the United States military and White House.
The organization has partnered with the Georgetown University Center for Global Health Science and Security, Stanford University Clinical Excellence Research Center, and Grand Rounds. Their model is an open source and traditional SEIR (susceptible, exposed, infectious, recovered) model. They collect data from sources such as The New York Times, and update the data daily.
They infer R values, a metric that exemplifies the disease's virality, based on individual regions to provide projections across the country. The model updates every three days, and uses available data, and looks to change as knowledge regarding COVID is updates.
