James Tamplin is a personal investor and part-time venture partner for seed stage fund Founder Collective. He is also the co-founder of Firebase, Founder Collective, and Charm Industrial.
From 2002 to 2006 James Tamplin studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received his BS in industrial and systems engineering. In 2006 to 2007, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he studied for and received his masters in industrial and systems engineering.
James Tamplin worked as a software engineer at TempWorks Software from 2003 to 2004 and at Boomerang Management from February 2009 to July 2009.
From 2008 to 2011, James Tamplin served as a co-founder for Envolve, SendMeHome, and Keep Security. Envolve was a Facebook-style chat for any website and was shut-down. SendMeHome was a free lost and found tracking service which was acquired by a competitor. And Keep Security was a fingerprint sensor for the iPhone that authorized payments in 2008, but which failed due to hardware difficulties.
James Tamplin co-founded and served as CEO for Firebase from 2011 to 2017. He continued with the company through their acquisition by Google where Firebase became part of Google's mobile application development platform. From 2014 to 2017, after Firebase's acquisition, James Tamplin worked for Google as a Group Product Manager where he described his role as improving Firebase using Google's resources.
James Tamplin was one of the Founder Partner's of the Founder Collective venture capital firm. He continues to operate as a part-time venture partner.
In 2017, James Tamplin served as co-founder for Charm Industrial, which is working to produce hydrogen from biomass, and where he continues to serve as a Board Member.
Starting in March 2020, James Tamplin serves as chief operating officer for Covid Act Now, which is a 501(c)3 providing data and dashboards for COVID-19.
Both in his role as a Founder Partner at Founder Collective, and personally, James Tamplin has acted as an angel investor. His investments have included b8ta, Segment, Monzo, Imgix, and Golden.
