Founded in 2010 by Olivier Pomel and Alexis Lê-Quôc, Datadog provides a monitoring and analytics platform for developers, IT operations teams, and business users. Their SaaS platform integrates and automates infrastructure monitoring, application performance monitoring, and log management to provide unified, real-time observations of an organization's IT stack.

Datadog allows companies to use various cloud services while monitoring the performance and usage in a single place. It supports cloud service providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Red Hat, OpenShift, and Google Cloud platform. Other customers include Amtrak, EA, Pagerduty, Salesforce, Zendesk, Atlassian, and Netflix.

Datadog has a user interface that can be customized to show multiple real-time data sources and notify users of performance issues on any metric.

Its integration allows its customers to use cloud, server, and container environments interchangeably. Datadog monitors and reports on the applications, regardless of environment.Part of its service is called Watchdog. Introduced in 2018, Watchdog uses machine learning to monitor all the performance data across multiple applications and provide alerts when anything unusual happens. The service also tries to provide insights into where the issue started.

In 2018, Datadog added a tool to create container maps to help companies identify containers, their relationships, and their underlying infrastructure. This allowed the company to act as a third party to Kubernetes apps and ensure they work properly.
