With a presence in about 140 countries, Deutsche Bahn is an international provider of mobility and logistics services. Founded in 1994, Germany's state-owned national rail operator, Deutsche Bahn, covers regional, national, and international passenger and cargo routes.
The company's major business is the railway, with about 7.3 million daily customers in the passenger transport segment and about one million tonnes of freight shipped through rail via Germany and Europe. Deutsche Bahn operates about 40,000 trains daily on its 33,300 kilometer-long rail network, with about 5,700 train stations.
In November 2023, the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) announced that its members would carry out a twenty-hour warning strike. This was a result of pay negotiations between the union and Deutsche Bahn (DB). GDL demanded a salary increase, a one-off payment to counter inflation, and a reduction in working hours without a loss of pay.
