Earlybird Venture Capital is a venture capital firm founded in 1997 by four individuals: Christian Nagel, Hendrik Brandis, Roland Manger, and Rolf Mathies. The firm’s base of operation is located in Europe, with a headquarters located in Berlin, Germany. It also has offices in Munich, Germany and Istanbul, Turkey. As of February 2019, the firm has 66 companies in its portfolio and has sold off its shares in 64 companies.
The firm invests in all development and growth phases of technology companies, from early-stage funding for startups to late-stage investment funding. It funds companies in multiple business sectors, some examples being marketplaces, biotech platform technologies, and enterprise productivity. Generally, the firm gives funding for companies based in Europe and U.S.
With its last funding series occurring in July 2018, Earlybird Venture Capital has managed a fund portfolio totaling €1.2 billion. This funding round collected €175 million for its Digital West fund, which focuses on early-stage digital technology opportunities in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, and Southern Europe.
