Hertzsprung studied chemistry under the guidance of his doctoral advisor, Wilhelm Ostwald. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the field of astronomy, mainly through his work with the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram, a graphical tool that is now widely used by astronomers to classify stars based on their intrinsic brightness, spectral type, color, and surface temperature.
Ejnar Hertzsprung passed away on October 21, 1967, in Roskilde, Denmark. His pioneering work in the field of astronomy has left a lasting legacy and continues to influence research in the field.
