Émile Boutroux (born July 28, 1845) was a French philosopher and historian. He was born in Montrouge, a commune in the Île-de-France region. Holding French citizenship, Boutroux studied at Heidelberg University in Germany. Throughout his career, he notably taught Émile Durkheim, who would go on to become an influential sociologist and philosopher. Émile Boutroux passed away on November 22, 1921, in Paris, France.
