Fetchr allows both the community and businesses to send or receive anything, anywhere, in the Middle East. E-commerce retailers can set up a scheduled delivery by simply using a customer’s mobile phone’s GPS co-ordinates, thereby aiming to consistently deliver to the correct location. It also allows individuals to set up a scheduled pick-up of an item they want to ship, through the Fetchr phone app.
As of July 2015, Fetchr is operational in 4 countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt & Bahrain) and over 30 cities across the MENA region.
Fetchr started operating in November of 2012. It was founded by Idriss Al Rifai in September of 2012 who was later joined by Joy Ajlouny in September of 2014. The pair met while Al Rifai was pitching to VCs in Silicon Valley.
Idriss Al Rifai is an entrepreneur who previously worked as a consultant at Boston Consulting Group. Co-founder Joy Ajlouny is a serial entrepreneur whose first startup in Silicon Valley, BONFAIRE, was acquired by Moda Operandi.
Fetchr secured $52m total in funding as of May 2019. Their series A funding round of $11m was led by New Enterprise Associates in 2015 -- the largest US based venture funds investment in the Middle East for a Series A round. This was followed a few months later with an undisclosed amount led by Mobily Ventures. In 2016, Fetchr raised $41m.
