Flipkart is an e-commerce platform established in 2007 by Binny Bansal and Sachin Bansal. It is headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. In August 2018, Flipkart was acquired by Walmart for $16 billion, giving the latter a 77 percent share of ownership over the company.
Flipkart began as a bookselling business. The company eventually expanded into selling products such as music, movies, and mobile phones. Other categories were introduced later, like lifestyle, fashion, and home products. Many of these product category expansions came from the acquisition of companies operating within these industries, such as Myntra, an online fashion retailer. As of June 2023, Flipkart offers more than 150 million products in over 800 product categories.
