Fortune Magazine is a bimonthly business and lifestyle magazine in circulation since 1929, which focuses on business news, politics, finance, technology, consumer goods, and travel. Fortune is owned by Chatchaval Jiaravanon and headquartered in New York City, with offices in Beijing, Boston, Chicago, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Shanghai.
Fortune Magazine was founded in 1929 by Henry Luce, the founder of Time Magazine and Time, Inc., as "the Ideal Super-Class Magazine" for "wealthy and influential people," which would be "surpassingly beautiful and so richly illustrated and so distinguished in appearance that it will be instinctive to turn the pages." Luce served as the magazine's first editor.
In 2014, Fortune Magazine launched its website, fortune.com. Prior to 2014, Fortune articles and content were hosted on CNNMoney.com. In January 2018, Iowa-based media conglomerate Meredith Corporation acquired Time, Inc. and Fortune. In December 2018, Meredith Corporation sold Fortune to Thai billionaire Chatchaval Jiaravanon for $150 million. Fortune Media Group Holdings is wholly owned by Jiaravanon and publishes Fortune Magazine, Fortune.com, and other business media (including the Global Forum, Most Powerful Women, and Brainstorm conferences) under the Fortune brand.
Fortune Magazine is published bimonthly in both print and digital formats. Fortune also releases content on its website, including podcasts and daily, weekly, and monthly newsletters. Fortune reports on a variety of topics in long, in-depth feature articles under the Automotives, Careers, Design, Executive Travel, The Ledger, Venture, Finance, Energy & Environment, Health, International, Leadership, Lifestyle, Luxury, Retail, Sports, Technology, and Commentary sections.
Fortune Magazine has featured the work of influential writers, editors, illustrators, and photographers, including Ansel Adams, James Agee, Constantin Alajálov, John Atherton, Herbert Bayer, Lester Beal, Thomas Benrimo, Joseph Binder, Margaret Bourke-White, A.M.
