Harivansh Rai Bachchan (1907-2003) was an Indian poet and writer, born in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh during the period of British Raj. He held Indian citizenship after the country gained its independence. Bachchan was educated at St Catharine's College, Cambridge. His occupation included being a poet and a writer. Harivansh Rai Bachchan passed away in New Delhi on January 18, 2003. He was the father of renowned Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan.
