Howard H. Aiken , also known as Howard Hathaway Aiken , was born on March 8, 1900, in Hoboken, New Jersey . He was a physicist, mathematician, consultant, computer scientist, engineer, and inventor . Aiken held citizenship in the United States and studied at various educational institutions, including Harvard University, the University of Chicago, Arsenal Technical High School, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison .
He is known for his notable works: the Harvard Mark I, Harvard Mark II, Harvard Mark III, and Harvard Mark IV . Aiken's doctoral advisor was Emory Leon Chaffee , and he had several doctoral students, including Fred Brooks, Kenneth E. Iverson, Gerard Salton, Gerrit Blaauw, and Anthony Oettinger . In 2014, Aiken was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame . He passed away on March 14, 1973, in St. Louis .
