Hummingbot is an open-source software client that allows users to create and customize automated, algorithmic trading bots for making markets on both centralized and decentralized digital asset exchanges. Hummingbot was launched to the public on April 04, 2019. Its main features include a command line-based user interface, trading strategy configuration, and trade execution for cross-exchange market making, pure market making, and arbitrage.
Hummingbird was founded by CoinAlpha and has since been moved to the Hummingbot Foundation, an open-source foundation founded to run the Hummingbot software application. The Hummingbot Foundation includes community developers and HBOT token holders responsible for the governance of the Hummingbot application. The foundation coordinates the maintenance and development of the application.
Hummingbot offers both centralized exchange and decentralized exchange connectors; a community-contributed strategy plan, which allows developers and HBOT token holders to develop strategies for Hummingbot and customizable templates for market making, arbitrage, and other trading strategies; a local client software that users install and run on their own devices or cloud-based virtual machines and includes encrypted API keys to maintain security; and community modules and events to help users with custom strategies.
HBOT is an ERC-20 token that is used for governance of the Hummingbot codebase. This token allows holders to decide which exchanges and strategies the Hummingbot codebase should include and prioritize and allocate developer bounties.
The Hummingbot Botcamp is a small-batch online course offering hands-on learning for those interested in cryptocurrency market-making. The course is intended to teach users the theory and practice of cryptocurrency market making and allow users to design and code their own trading strategy. Botcamp offers users lifetime access to the community and content library.
