Isovalent

Isovalent is a developer of open-source cloud-native networking software for enterprises. This software is capable of connecting, monitoring, and securing workloads in cloud-computing environments. The company's software offers advanced networking and security capabilities to the most demanding of enterprise users. The company's product, Cilium, is based on eBPF and is used by organizations including Adobe, AWS, Capital One, Datadog, GitLab, Trip.com, Wild Life, Cognite, Telenor, SAP Concur, Radiofrance, PosFinance, Alibaba.com, DigitalOcean, Form3, and Google.

The company was founded in 2017 by Dan Wendlandt and Thomas Graf and is headquartered in Mountain View, California.

Launched in November 2020, Isovalent's Cilium is a dataplane, or an eBPF on the Linux kernel implementation for Kubernetes, intended to offer a new approach to cloud-native implementation, rather than using technology such as iptables or other IP/port-based approaches. Because Cilium is built around eBPF and runs within the Linux kernel, it makes it seamless to deploy and perform. With eBPF, it is possible to write a program and embed it into the kernel, allowing users to see and control what is happening at the API level and offering a more powerful way to do networking in cloud environments. This is intended to yield better program tracing, observability, and monitoring.

With this architecture, Isovalent's Cilium combines network and runtime behavior to provide a single source of data for cloud-native forensics, auditing, compliance monitoring, and threat detection integrated into a user's SIEM or log aggregation platform. Cilium also gives users capabilities such as traffic management, load balancing, and infrastructure monitoring.
