James Gutierrez is a FinTech entrepreneur, philanthropist, founder of Opportun, and co-founder and CEO of Insikt (Aura)
In 2005, James co-founded Progreso Financiero (later rebranded as Oportun) to make unsecured loans accessible to Hispanic families who may not have excellent credit scores or credit histories.Since its inception, Oportun has provided over $1.5 billion in loans to more than 500,000 borrowers in the US, and expanded to eighty five retail locations in California in Texas. James raised over $250 million to nurture Progreso Financiero of 2005 into Oportun of 2012.
James served on the Federal Reserve Board's Consumer Advisory Council and the Centennial Advisory Committee. He also serves as Co-Chair at the Silicon Valley Leadership Group.
James Gutierrez holds an MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, and a B.A. in Economics from Yale University.
