Joanna of Castile, historically known as Joanna the Mad (Spanish: Juana la Loca), was the nominal queen of Castile from 1504 and queen of Aragon from 1516 until her death in 1555. She was born on November 6, 1479, in Toledo, Spain and passed away on April 12, 1555, in Tordesillas. Joanna was the third child and second daughter of Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon, both members of the House of Trastámara.
Joanna's occupation was a queen regnant, and she held Spanish citizenship. Known by her birth name Joanna, she was also nicknamed Joanna the Mad.
Joanna was the mother of several notable children, including Isabella of Austria, Eleanor of Austria, Charles V, Ferdinando I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, Mary of Hungary (governor of the Netherlands), and Catherine of Austria (1420–1493). Additionally, she was the mother of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, Ferdinand I, Holy Roman Emperor, and Catherine of Austria, Queen of Portugal.
